Sensitivity: 

  1. Sensitize students to be socially and environmentally responsible and to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams within the field of human habitat.
  2. Engage learners in community outreach programs and assimilate knowledge in built environment-related disciplines.
  3. Knowledge: 
  4. Nurture quality education that enables the use and extension of appropriate knowledge for designing a built environment.
  5. Stimulate and develop critical thinking to assess the existing environment in the service of the discipline of architecture and urbanism. 
  6. Offer sound knowledge in design theories and their applications, social, cultural and environmental factors.
  7. Learning to apply interdisciplinary knowledge and use tools that enable it.

Skilled practice: 

  1. Inculcate skills necessary for the physical, social and creative realms of crafting architecture and urbanism.
  2. Prepare students to recognize and act upon opportunities and aspirations.
  3. Instil creative problem-solving skills by offering active and experiential learning by working with varied materials and media. 
  4. Develop skills to demonstrate design concepts and solutions, and adopt effective communication of those ideas to peers, clients, decision-makers, and the public.
  5. It prepares candidates for careers in research cohorts, university teaching, urban cohorts dealing with design and systems advocacy, and material labs, among many others.

The PhD program at CHRIST (Deemed to be University) is a unique space for researchers who have embedded practices in the larger discipline of design and are interested in collaborative critical thinking with transdisciplinary connections. The 3- year Doctoral Program focuses on transdisciplinary inquiry in design, architecture, art, urbanism, humanities, psychology, culture, heritage and sustainability with creative and experimental practices being at the core of research. The PhD program equips its scholars with research, critical thinking, theoretical engagement and writing skills providing structured course work and expert guidance. There are various qualified guides, within the School of Architecture, with doctorates in various disciplines. We have collaborations from School of English and Cultural Studies and Psychology Department presently to support transdisciplinary research. They have been included in the Research Advisory Committee of many of the scholars presently working with the school.

Program Details
The doctoral program normally takes 3-5 years to complete and involves the following
stages:


Six Months Course Work: The scholars are required to complete course work that prepares them for undertaking research and includes courses on research methodology, research ethics, publications among others.


Proposal and Research Advisory Committee (RAC): Scholars develop a proposal which is ratified by a committee according to the University regulation.


Research and Thesis: After the formal approval of the PhD proposal scholars work intensively with their respective guides and the RAC to further their research. This has
intermediate evaluation that qualify the scholars to finally undertake the final external evaluation, to be then awarded the degree.

Students who have completed their post-graduation from an international university must submit an equivalency certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Time of Payment: All the candidates have to pay the I Year fee immediately after confirmation of the admission. For subsequent years, fees must be paid annually on or before 15th March.
# The fee for Full Time PhD Scholars, as indicated in the table, is the actual fee payable and excludes the scholarship amount.
 
It is to be noted that though the fee is fixed for two years, there may be a periodic nominal increase to meet the rise in costs.
 
1. NRI fee is applicable for the first year for candidates who have studied foreign syllabus (has to be approved by UGC / AIU) in the qualifying examination of study in India. In subsequent years Other Indian States fee will be applicable.
(The above condition is not applicable to NRI and candidates applied under NRI Category).
 
2. NRI fee is applicable for the full duration of the Programme for candidates who;
   2.1. Have pursued and completed their last qualifying exam from outside India.
   2.2. Are NRI and candidates who have applied under the NRI category.
 
3. To claim the Indian category fee, the candidates should have studied last 7 years in India. (Not applicable for OCI, PIO and Foreign Nationals).
 
4. Admission registration fee of INR 5000/- (US $80 for foreign nationals/PIO/OCI) is non-refundable in the event of cancellation of admission. This fee will be apart from cancellation charges if any applicable.
 
5. All Candidates If “Selected” after appearing for the final selection process, the fee may be paid through the following option:
    Payment can make through Net banking / NEFT / RTGS
    Payment / Transfer of fees does not guarantee admission.
